Project MSSELL (Middle School Science for English Language Lears), an NSF DRK-12 funded grant, is a randomized trial longitudinal evaluation of an enhanced, standards-based science curriculum model. In Year 1, the project refined and piloted the MSSELL model based on findings from a previous longitudinal study, Project English Language and Literacy Acquisition, funded by Institute of Education Sciences, with K-3 grade students. In Years 2 and 3, the enhanced model is being implemented and studies longitudinally with fifth and sixth grade students. This DRK-12 collaborative grant is with Texas A&M University and Sam Houston State University in partnership with Aldine Independent School District, Houston, Texas.
